Trinamool Congress leader Majeed Memon responded to Salman Khurshid’s support for the demolition near Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid in Delhi, clarifying that Khurshid’s views were personal and not necessarily endorsed by the Congress. Memon emphasized the importance of actions under the law being peaceful and not causing unrest or legal disruptions.
The demolition near Turkman Gate, conducted under a court order, led to violent clashes as protestors gathered. Stone-pelting resulted in injuries to police, prompting additional security deployment to restore calm. Investigations and legal proceedings are ongoing in the aftermath of the incident.
While Khurshid defended the demolition as lawful and in compliance with court orders, Memon stressed the need to prevent public unrest and violence. He highlighted the significance of actions not destabilizing public order, irrespective of legal justifications.
Memon also criticized the politicization of governor appointments under the BJP government, expressing concern over governors aligning with political parties. He underscored the importance of governors upholding constitutional values independently for the sake of democracy.
