Doctor and Trinamool Congress leader, Santanu Sen, has resigned from his position as the party’s All-India Spokesperson. Sen, a former Rajya Sabha MP, cited his decision to step down after acknowledging the people’s verdict in the state Assembly elections. This move comes following Sen’s previous suspension from the party for addressing hospital corruption issues in response to a tragic incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2024.
Santanu Sen, who had been reinstated as the party spokesperson, has now resigned again with the Trinamool Congress out of power. He has communicated his resignation to the party leadership, although its acceptance remains uncertain. Recently, Sen’s public acknowledgment of the newly-elected BJP government in the state and his willingness to assist in investigating the RG Kar case caused discomfort within the Trinamool ranks.
In a letter to Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee, Sen expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he had been given within the party while highlighting his decision to resign in light of the people’s rejection of alleged immoral acts and corruption. The BJP’s victory in the Assembly elections has led to internal unrest within the Trinamool, with leaders openly criticizing the party and acknowledging public dissatisfaction with issues such as institutional corruption and extortion charges.
