The “original but minority” faction within the Trinamool Congress has accused a significant deployment of state and central forces outside Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat, South Kolkata. This deployment is purportedly aimed at preventing the leaders from visiting the family of a child who was allegedly raped and murdered in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district. Derek O’Brien, a key figure in this faction, raised concerns about the restriction of movement due to the presence of numerous police cars in the vicinity.
Trinamool Congress member Mahua Moitra also criticized the heavy security presence through a social media post, sharing images of police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployment. She questioned the treatment of Mamata Banerjee, highlighting the deliberate actions to hinder her visit to Baruipur. The state government in West Bengal has faced criticism for allegedly obstructing Mamata Banerjee’s movements in response to the tragic incident.
In response to the rape and murder case in Baruipur, four individuals have been arrested so far. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has personally reached out to the victim’s family, promising that the perpetrators will face justice. Additionally, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the incident thoroughly.
