Trinamool Congress has taken legal action by approaching the Calcutta High Court after the police decided to freeze three of its bank accounts. The party is seeking the court’s intervention to determine the reasons and authorization behind the freezing of these accounts. The total amount held in these three Trinamool accounts is reported to be Rs 440 crore.
A few days ago, the party’s treasurer, Aroop Biswas, had requested a private bank to freeze the accounts due to an internal conflict over control of party funds. Following a reshuffle in the party’s organization on June 5, former MP Subhasish Chakraborty was appointed as the new treasurer, replacing Aroop Biswas.
In response to the freezing of the accounts, Aroop Biswas claimed in a letter to the bank that he still holds the position of the party’s treasurer. This action led to the temporary suspension of transactions on the accounts, causing unrest within the party. A show-cause notice was subsequently issued to the former minister by the party leadership.
