Reports suggest that rebel Trinamool Congress MPs are considering a meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Samajwadi Party spokesperson Udaiveer Singh criticized the Speaker, accusing him of operating under the BJP’s influence and lacking impartiality.
Singh stated, “He is the BJP’s Speaker. The Speaker has no faith in impartiality. Everyone knows that he acts according to the signals he receives. These Speakers have not even upheld constitutional norms. I believe history will count them among the worst Speakers. That is why no one expects anything from them. They will act according to the BJP’s directions.”
Amid the controversy, senior Trinamool MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that around 20 Lok Sabha MPs had decided to support the NDA and had communicated this stance to the Lok Sabha Speaker. This move is seen as a potential division within the party’s parliamentary unit.
The Trinamool Congress, which currently holds 28 Lok Sabha seats, witnessed internal discord in the West Bengal Assembly recently. A group of dissident MPs extended support to the NDA, diverging from the party’s stance, while party chief Mamata Banerjee was in Delhi for an INDIA bloc conclave to strategize against the BJP.
