Three pages with signatures of 19 Trinamool Congress MPs have emerged, suggesting they form a significant part of the party’s Lok Sabha representation. The authenticity of these pages, reportedly part of a letter submitted by MPs led by Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Satabdi Roy to the Lok Sabha Speaker, remains uncertain. Notably, the first signatures on these pages belong to Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Satabdi Roy, both four-time Lok Sabha members.
Confusion surrounds the visibility of 17 other Lok Sabha members’ signatures on these pages, including prominent names like Dev, Mala Roy, and Yusuf Pathan. Despite the presence of these signatures, the legitimacy of the document is yet to be verified. Party sources close to the MPs suggest that some signatures were added at different times, explaining the varying order of signatures on the pages.
The letter, purportedly signed by 19 rebel MPs, has not been officially acknowledged by the Speaker’s office. Trinamool Congress currently holds 27 seats in the Lok Sabha, with one seat vacant following the passing of Haji Sk. Nurul Islam in 2024. The MPs involved in this development have chosen to remain silent on the matter, leaving the situation unresolved.
