Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee raised doubts on whether the people of Balurghat in West Bengal’s South Dinajpur district have truly received any benefits from Central government schemes despite the ‘double-engine government’ in place. He directly challenged BJP’s Balurghat Lok Sabha MP, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing specific statistics. The Trinamool Congress has been unable to stop BJP’s wins in Balurghat during the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
With an eye on the upcoming Assembly elections, the Trinamool leadership is intensifying its focus on the north Bengal region. During an election campaign in Balurghat, Abhishek Banerjee criticized the BJP, highlighting the lack of progress under the ‘double-engine government.’ He pointed out the failure to bring in additional Central funds despite BJP representatives holding office for years. Banerjee also challenged the Central government to compare achievements in Balurghat under Trinamool Congress with those under the Modi government.
Responding to BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar’s comments on the state’s ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ scheme, Abhishek Banerjee issued a challenge. He questioned the BJP’s ability to successfully implement the scheme in any state under their governance, emphasizing the Trinamool’s track record of delivering benefits to women. Banerjee highlighted the efficient implementation of schemes like Yuba Sathi, emphasizing the quick disbursement of funds under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
