Trinamool Congress-backed Adhikar Raksha Committee members, representing Booth Level Officers (BLOs), allegedly threw shoes at the West Bengal Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari at the State Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Kolkata. The incident occurred when Adhikari and a BJP delegation arrived to meet the state CEO as scheduled. Despite police presence, tension escalated as the BLOs protested, accusing Adhikari of misleading the Election Commission.
Eyewitnesses reported that the BLOs hurled shoes and insulted Adhikari, claiming he was causing trouble for electoral poll workers. The chaotic situation led to a strong police response to restore order outside the CEO’s office. The incident unfolded amid rising political tensions in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls, particularly concerning the Special Intensive Revision process.
Following the altercation, LoP Adhikari criticized the police for their handling of the situation, expressing concerns about law and order in the state. He also lodged a complaint with the West Bengal CEO, alleging attempts to include illegal immigrants in the voter list and questioning the presence of a former Chief Secretary at an Election Commission meeting.
