The police apprehended five Trinamool Congress members, including Debashis Banerjee, a councilor from South Dum Dum Municipality, following a scuffle outside Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The altercation occurred as Trinamool workers clashed with BJP supporters protesting against Abhishek Banerjee, who was leaving the airport.
Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Congress general secretary, had traveled to Delhi and upon his return, a confrontation erupted at the airport exit. Trinamool alleged that BJP supporters, armed with firearms, had gathered to oppose Banerjee and even planned to throw eggs at him. Despite the chaos, Banerjee was safely escorted out through an alternative route.
The BJP filed a complaint against Trinamool workers, leading to the arrest of the five individuals based on CCTV footage. Notably, Debashis Banerjee, one of the arrested, has ties to former state Education Minister Bratya Basu. Following the incident, Abhishek Banerjee expressed concerns about security in West Bengal, highlighting the need for stringent measures to prevent such occurrences.
