In a scathing assessment of the previous Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, senior party member Biswajit Deb expressed doubts about the party’s performance in the Lok Sabha elections following the RG Kar controversy. Deb, also the Advocate General of Mizoram, attributed Trinamool’s electoral losses to issues such as corruption, lack of grassroots communication, and administrative shortcomings.
Deb highlighted rampant corruption, the influence of I-PAC, and the RG Kar incident as major factors contributing to Trinamool’s decline. He noted that the party leadership failed to grasp the ground realities, leading to public dissatisfaction over corruption within various government departments and among officials.
The former Trinamool leader emphasized the significance of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case, criticizing Mamata Banerjee’s handling of the situation. Deb pointed out a disconnect between party workers and leadership, citing inadequate communication channels as a key challenge faced by Trinamool.
Furthermore, Deb accused Trinamool General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee of exacerbating the party’s defeat through his statements and attitude. He also raised concerns about the role of the political consultancy I-PAC, alleging that it misled party members and demanded money for nominations.
Deb underscored the importance of understanding the sentiments of party workers and criticized the leadership for neglecting grassroots-level engagement. He highlighted the impact of polarization in the Bengal elections and expressed concerns about the party’s future trajectory under the current leadership.
