Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra faced protests when a mob threw eggs and cow dung at her in the presence of police. Surprisingly, a veteran leader of the CPI(M), Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya, condemned the attack despite being from a rival party.
Bhattacharya, a former Rajya Sabha member and senior advocate, expressed his disapproval of the incident on social media. He emphasized that although Moitra is his political opponent, she is an elected Lok Sabha member without any allegations of corruption against her.
The attack occurred during an internal party meeting at a Trinamool office in Kaliganj, Nadia district. Protesters gathered outside the office, hurling eggs and cow dung while making derogatory remarks about Moitra. In response, Moitra live-streamed the incident on Facebook and criticized a section of her own party.
Trinamool Congress’s general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, also condemned the attack in a social media post. He accused the BJP of orchestrating the assault on Moitra. However, the state BJP president, Samik Bhattacharya, denied the party’s involvement, attributing the incident to disgruntled Trinamool Congress workers.
