The budget session of the Tripura Assembly is set to start on March 13, with Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu delivering the opening day’s address. This session marks the beginning of the ninth session of the 13th Tripura Assembly. The detailed schedule and agenda for the upcoming session will be finalized during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee on March 6.
Reports suggest that the election of a new Speaker for the Assembly may take place during this session, following the passing of sitting Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen on December 26 last year. However, the formal process for electing a new Speaker has not yet commenced, as confirmed by Assembly Secretary Amiya Kanti Nath. No official notification regarding this matter has been issued thus far.
There is speculation within political circles about several BJP MLAs vying for the Speaker’s position. Tribal leader Ram Pada Jamatia, elected from the Bagma Assembly constituency in Gomati district, is seen as a leading contender. The BJP has not made an official announcement regarding its candidate for the Speaker’s role.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy is expected to present the Budget for the 2026–27 financial year during this session. While the Budget is typically presented on the session’s first day, the final decision will be made during the Business Advisory Committee meeting on March 6. This will mark the presentation of the third Budget of the BJP-led government’s second term.
