The Budget session of the Tripura Assembly is set to kick off on March 13, with Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu slated to deliver the opening day’s address, as announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath. The session’s detailed schedule and agenda were finalized during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) chaired by Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul.
During the BAC meeting, it was disclosed that the state government plans to introduce three bills in the Assembly aimed at establishing three new universities: Tripura Women’s University, Tripura University of Health Sciences, and Tripura Technical University. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy is scheduled to present the Budget for the financial year 2026–27 on March 16, along with tabling the Supplementary Budget for the financial year 2025-26.
This will mark Roy’s presentation of the third Budget of the BJP-led government’s second term. The Budget session is expected to run until March 25, according to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Reports had earlier hinted at the potential election of a new Speaker of the Assembly during the session following the passing of sitting Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen on December 26 last year.
Assembly Secretary Amiya Kanti Nath clarified that the formal process for electing a new Speaker has not commenced, and no official notification has been issued yet. The upcoming Budget is anticipated to allocate more resources to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in preparation for the crucial polls the 30-member tribal autonomous body is likely to face in March or April.
