Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted the importance of proper waste disposal for environmental protection, stating that dumping waste indiscriminately could lead to fines or legal action. He stressed the need for a collective effort to ensure a clean and healthy Tripura. Saha made these statements during a workshop on waste management in Agartala, urging all sections of society to contribute to creating a cleaner state.
Saha emphasized that the right to a clean and healthy environment is guaranteed by the Constitution and laws, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as a call for scientific waste management. He underlined the constitutional duty of every individual to maintain cleanliness, warning that environmental pollution poses a severe threat to public health. The Chief Minister called for public support and cooperation to achieve success in waste management initiatives.
The Chief Minister reiterated the need for responsible waste disposal to protect the environment and announced that District Magistrates would oversee compliance. He mentioned the authority of officials to impose fines, take legal action, and even disconnect utilities for violators. Saha also highlighted the role of municipal representatives in raising awareness and promoting proper waste management practices in their areas.
Saha expressed the government’s commitment to creating a sustainable urban environment, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness at the state level. He emphasized the mandatory user charge for garbage collection and the state government’s ‘Amar Sarkar’ app, praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The workshop was attended by various public representatives and officials, including the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Deputy Mayor, and Urban Development Department Secretary.
