Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted the growing importance of the Chaturdash Devta Temple as a key religious tourism spot in the state. Speaking at the inauguration of the traditional Kharchi Puja festival, he stressed the government’s commitment to preserving heritage while promoting development.
The Kharchi Puja, originally a centuries-old ritual, has transformed into a unifying festival that transcends social barriers, drawing people from diverse backgrounds. Saha emphasized that the festival symbolizes Tripura’s rich history, spiritual unity, and cultural harmony, reflecting the state’s ethos of communal coexistence.
Acknowledging the festival’s roots in the worship of fourteen deities linked to Tripura’s royal lineage, Saha noted its evolution into a community celebration embraced by all. The Kharchi Puja, observed annually during the Ashadh month, involves elaborate rituals, fairs, and cultural events, attracting devotees and visitors from various parts of the country and beyond.
Referring to the festival’s historical and cultural significance, Saha underlined its role in fostering unity amidst diversity in Tripura. He praised the festival’s theme this year, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,’ aimed at promoting environmental conservation and enhancing green initiatives. The Chief Minister commended the organizers for their efforts in preserving the temple’s heritage while modernizing facilities for tourists.
