Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the completion of 42 dams in the state for flood control, with plans for 193 more projects to prevent erosion along rivers. He highlighted the importance of reforms alongside infrastructure development for sustainable progress. The State Data Centre, inaugurated in Agartala, is expected to enhance flood management and disaster preparedness by providing real-time information.
The Chief Minister stressed the role of technology in governance and development, linking it to agricultural production and GDP growth. The State Data Centre, established by the Water Resources Department, is seen as a significant milestone for Tripura. Saha mentioned the center’s contribution to flood control activities and its alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of integrating technology into administration.
Under the National Hydrology Project, the State Data Centre was constructed with an initial investment of Rs 4.67 crore, with further funds allocated for its development. Tripura has made progress in irrigation, covering 1,23,754 hectares of land as of March 2026, with plans to bring more land under irrigation. The government aims to implement additional irrigation projects and minor storage structures to further expand irrigation coverage in the state.
Saha highlighted the existing dams and upcoming flood control projects in Tripura, emphasizing measures to prevent erosion and control floodwater in various areas. He mentioned ongoing initiatives to enhance irrigation facilities and expand agricultural land under irrigation coverage. The inaugural program was attended by officials from the Public Works Department, including Secretary P.K. Goyal and Chief Engineer Sudhan Debbarma.
