Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his dedicated work towards advancing women in various sectors, emphasizing women’s safety as a top priority. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s commitment to empowering women and criticized opposition obstacles that have delayed the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament. Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy introduced the 131st Constitution Amendment Bill, aiming to secure 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies, a move that received widespread support during discussions in the Assembly.
The Chief Minister expressed appreciation for the constructive debate in the Assembly on women’s reservation but pointed out the consistent opposition from the opposition parties to bills proposed in Parliament. He clarified that delimitation would be population-based rather than geographical, ensuring no reduction in seats for specific regions as per constitutional provisions. Saha accused the opposition of spreading misinformation and creating division among the public, particularly criticizing their tendency to oppose government bills routinely.
