Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted the importance of preserving local languages alongside promoting Hindi to foster connections rather than divisions. Speaking at a regional language conference inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Saha stressed the need for collective progress through India’s official language while supporting the growth of regional languages.
Welcoming delegates from over 20 states to Tripura, Saha expressed gratitude to Shah for selecting the state as the event venue and commended officials for their efforts in organizing the conference. He emphasized that a widely understood language like Hindi strengthens the bond between citizens and the government, noting the significance of maintaining regional languages alongside Hindi.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saha noted India’s progress in reviving and promoting Indian languages, including Sanskrit. He highlighted the National Education Policy, 2020’s focus on multilingual education and the use of mother tongues for instruction. Saha cited Tripura’s experience, where Hindi usage has increased while local languages continue to be practiced, representing the identity and essence of the people.
Union Home Minister Shah, addressing the event, emphasized the importance of not politicizing languages and scripts, urging parents to communicate with their children in their mother tongue to preserve literature, culture, and history. Shah stressed the significance of primary education in students’ mother tongues and advocated for the use of ‘Nagari Lipi’ to safeguard linguistic identities.
