Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to reduce fuel dependency and promote public transport, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and several ministers have begun reducing the number of vehicles in their security convoys. Chief Minister Saha has halved his convoy size from eight to four vehicles, effective Thursday. Minister Ratan Lal Nath opted for a bicycle and auto-rickshaw for commuting, expressing support for fuel conservation and environmental protection following PM Modi’s appeal.
Power, Agriculture, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the importance of personal commitments in nation-building, stating his decision to use a bicycle for short-distance travel to back fuel conservation. Food, Civil Supplies, and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also announced a reduction in his security convoy vehicles from four to two in response to the Prime Minister’s plea for fuel conservation. Minister Animesh Debbarma curtailed his official convoy size and directed departments under his charge to adopt similar measures to cut fuel consumption and expenses.
Chief Minister Saha expressed willingness to reduce convoy vehicles, ensuring security concerns are addressed. He highlighted the importance of security while supporting the reduction of vehicles. PM Modi’s recent appeal in Hyderabad urged citizens to decrease fuel reliance, opt for public transport, and consider electric vehicles amid global energy concerns.
