Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his intention to discuss with Director General of Police Anurag the potential reduction of his security convoy size. This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suggestion to spend more judiciously. CM Saha, returning from Guwahati, mentioned his support for reducing convoy vehicles as long as security concerns are addressed.
During his visit to Guwahati for Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s swearing-in, CM Saha stated that he is open to reducing vehicles if security is not compromised. He emphasized his desire for fewer vehicles and security personnel, subject to security considerations.
CM Saha, who also oversees the Home portfolio, highlighted the importance of discussing the matter with the state police chief before making any decisions. The move aligns with other state leaders’ initiatives to cut expenses, including those related to security and official trips.
Prime Minister Modi’s recent call for reduced fuel dependency and promotion of public transport resonated with CM Saha’s willingness to explore options like carpooling and electric vehicles. The PM’s push for EV inclusion in convoys reflects efforts to curtail fuel expenses and promote sustainable practices.
Various ministries and government departments are expected to adopt cost-saving measures, such as carpooling and using public transport. This shift towards frugality is part of a broader national strategy to reduce expenditure and promote sustainable practices.
Leaders like Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who attended Assam CM Sarma’s oath-taking ceremony, arrived in Agartala. They were greeted by Tripura CM and BJP leaders before heading to the Tripura Sundari Temple for prayers.
