Responding to Tripura government’s request, the Union Ministry of AYUSH has given the green light for the establishment of a 60-seat Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital in Udaipur, southern Tripura’s Gomati district. Chief Minister Manik Saha shared his joy on social media, mentioning that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has accepted the proposal for the college with an intake capacity of 60 seats starting from the academic session 2026–27.
Expressing gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support, Chief Minister Saha highlighted the significance of this approval in enhancing Ayurvedic education, promoting traditional medicine systems, and providing educational opportunities for students in Tripura. This move is expected to improve healthcare services in the state as well.
The AYUSH Ministry’s communication attached by the Chief Minister to his social media post revealed that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine has approved Tripura’s proposal for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital. The college is set to offer 60 undergraduate seats for the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course starting from the academic session 2026–27.
With three existing medical colleges in Tripura offering around 550 MBBS seats and nearly 200 postgraduate medical seats, the state is also home to a government-run dental college with 63 seats. Chief Minister Saha had previously outlined plans to further strengthen medical education and healthcare services in the state by establishing super-speciality hospitals, a new medical college in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) region, and a dedicated eye hospital.
