In an effort to save fuel and control expenses, the Tripura government has announced the closure of all government offices on Saturdays and Sundays. Previously, offices were closed only on Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays of each month. The new office timings will start at 9.30 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. on working days, aiming to reduce electricity and fuel consumption through energy-saving measures.
Transport, Food, and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury disclosed that the roster system for ‘Group C’ and ‘Group D’ employees has been revoked, requiring all government employees to attend office daily. Earlier, 50% of these employees were working from home as part of fuel-saving initiatives. The decision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation and promoting electric vehicles.
Minister Chowdhury also mentioned plans to fill five Inspector of Small Savings posts through the Tripura Public Service Commission. The government has initiated various cost-cutting measures, such as virtual meetings, increased use of electric and CNG vehicles, and reducing vehicle usage at the administrative level. Strict compliance with these measures has been mandated across government departments.
The Cabinet has approved recruitment for 81 vacant positions in departments like Information and Cultural Affairs and Public Works. These steps come amid global fuel concerns and in response to the Prime Minister’s plea for conservation efforts.
