Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker and four-time MLA Biswa Bandhu Sen, aged 72, passed away in Bengaluru after undergoing medical treatment for over four months. Sen, who transitioned from Congress to BJP, is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
The Tripura government has announced three days of state mourning from Friday to honor the late leader. During this period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across the state, and official entertainment programs will be suspended.
In respect of Biswa Bandhu Sen, all government offices, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and educational institutions in Tripura, including those outside the state, will remain closed on Friday. A state funeral for Sen is scheduled for Saturday.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with other prominent leaders, expressed condolences over Sen’s demise. Saha praised Sen’s efficient conduct as the Assembly Speaker, highlighting his fairness and competence in managing house proceedings.
Sen, who underwent emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage in August, was later shifted to Bengaluru for advanced medical care. His son, Arijit Sen, a doctor, acknowledged the support received during his father’s treatment in Agartala before being moved to Bengaluru.
