Agartala, Aug 14 (IANS) A minor girl from Sabroom in South Tripura district, reported missing in June, has been safely rescued from Bengaluru and brought back to the state by the police, while the accused named in the FIR has been arrested, officials said on Friday.
A police official said the June 27 case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 was taken up on priority from the day it was registered. Investigators pursued multiple technical and digital leads, including Call Data Record (CDR) and Location Based Services (LBS) analysis, with support from the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID). They traced the girl and the accused to Bengaluru.
Following approval from Police Headquarters, a three‑member police team led by Sub‑Inspector Ramani Debbarma, and including women police personnel, was immediately sent to Bengaluru to coordinate the recovery operation. Senior officers of the Bengaluru City Police were contacted directly, including the Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
With the assistance of the Whitefield Police Station under Bengaluru Urban district, the 16‑year‑old girl was safely rescued and the accused arrested in accordance with the law. The accused was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bengaluru Rural District, on August 13, and the court granted a transit warrant for his production before the Sabroom Court in South Tripura district by August 18, 2026.
According to the police official, the police subsequently obtained necessary clearances for escorting the accused by air from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Airport Police, Airport Authorities, and IndiGo Airlines, facilitating his return to Tripura with the police team. On Friday, the police team returned to Tripura with the accused and the girl.
The accused is being produced before the jurisdictional court for further legal proceedings. The recovered girl is being looked after strictly in accordance with prescribed child‑protection procedures, with her safety, privacy and dignity accorded the highest priority. Police said they would not disclose her identity or personal details, as required by law.
The girl was traced and brought back safely from a location more than 3,000 kilometres away within weeks of the case being registered, highlighting the importance of prompt investigation, inter‑state police coordination and the use of technical and digital tools in tracing missing children.
The South Tripura District Police placed on record its appreciation for the cooperation extended by Police Headquarters, NATGRID, Bengaluru City Police, Whitefield Police Station, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Airport Authorities and IndiGo Airlines in ensuring the safe recovery of the girl and the return of the accused to Tripura.
Police also appealed to the public to report any missing child or child in distress to the nearest police station or by dialling 112 without delay, stressing that early reporting and timely information sharing can significantly improve the chances of a safe recovery. Officials reiterated that prompt reporting of missing‑child cases is crucial, as every hour can be important in ensuring the safety and speedy recovery of a child.
