Acting on a request from the Tripura Police, the Arunachal Pradesh Police successfully rescued 24 child labourers and some adult workers who were trafficked to the state for unauthorized work. An official team from Tripura will travel to Itanagar to bring the rescued children back. Initially, it was reported that around 30 child labourers were taken to Arunachal Pradesh, but verification confirmed the number to be 24.
The Officer-in-Charge of Kailashahar Police Station in Tripura’s Unakoti district mentioned that the Tripura Police sought assistance from their Arunachal Pradesh counterparts after a missing persons case was filed to trace the children. Following this, the Arunachal Pradesh Police conducted a search operation, leading to the successful rescue of the children and adult workers. Family members had lodged a complaint alleging ill-treatment and inhumane living conditions for the children.
The parents of the missing children, who work in tea gardens in Northern Tripura’s Unakoti district, are deeply concerned about the well-being and safe return of their loved ones. Tripura’s Labour, Social Welfare, and Social Education Minister reached out to Arunachal Pradesh’s Commerce and Industries, Labour, and Employment Minister seeking intervention for the rescue of the children. The traffickers had reportedly promised wages and benefits to the children but failed to fulfill their obligations, leading to distress and anxiety among the victims.
