Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the state has been honored with 347 national and regional awards in the past eight years for its dedication to good governance. He emphasized that Tripura’s progress in governance showcases that even small states can excel through innovative ideas and effective institutions. Saha highlighted that Tripura aims to lead the Northeastern states in policy-making for good governance.
To further enhance development efforts, the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) plans to implement an index-based monitoring system. Saha stressed that good governance is about fostering trust between the state and its citizens, emphasizing the importance of decision-making, effective institutions, and delivering results. He also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his vision of inclusive and forward-looking governance.
The Good Governance Department, established in August 2023, launched TIFT on December 25, 2023, under NITI Aayog’s State Support Mission. TIFT has been recognized as one of the top seven state institutions in India by NITI Aayog. Tripura has been collaborating with leading knowledge institutions under NITI Aayog’s State Support Mission to identify strengths, set targets, and develop sectoral roadmaps.
Innovation is a key focus for modern governance in Tripura, with initiatives like the Tripura Startup Policy formulated through design thinking workshops. The state is also restructuring its skill development ecosystem to align skills with industry needs and enhance youth employment opportunities. Additionally, Tripura has set up a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Cell to promote private participation in public projects.
The state’s efforts in good governance have garnered national recognition, with Tripura’s reform strategy being shared at the Chief Secretaries’ Conference and the Bihar government inviting officials to study the Tripura Model of Doing Business. Tripura’s engagement with the global Tripuri diaspora through the Prabasi Tripurabasi Initiative has facilitated collaboration and investment for the state’s development. Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha highlighted Tripura’s role in national development, while Director General of Police Anurag discussed the state’s law and order situation.
