The Trump administration stated that its military and economic pressure campaign has led Iran to engage in discussions regarding its nuclear program. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent highlighted that Iran is addressing issues that previous US administrations struggled to tackle. This shift in Iran’s stance signifies a positive outcome of Washington’s strategy.

Recent developments have shown Iran’s willingness to negotiate, although no formal agreement has been confirmed yet. Bessent emphasized that any potential deal would hinge on Iran meeting specific US demands, such as relinquishing enriched uranium and ceasing nuclear weapon pursuits. The administration’s approach of combining military measures and economic sanctions has influenced Iran’s decision-making.

Sanctions relief for Iran remains conditional on tangible concessions, with negotiations ongoing. Bessent underscored the importance of Iran complying with US requirements before any agreements are finalized. He also noted challenges within the Iranian leadership, suggesting internal discord in responding to recent events.

While President Trump favors diplomatic solutions, Bessent cautioned that escalating pressure is an option if talks fail. The administration aims to balance pressure tactics with diplomacy in its Iran policy. Officials assert that the dual approach of sanctions and military actions has bolstered Washington’s negotiating position.
