The Trump administration has garnered 78 applications for its new artificial intelligence export program. David Fogel, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets, revealed this information during a congressional hearing. The applications exceeded expectations, with nearly three times more submissions than anticipated.
The American AI Export Programme’s first wave attracted applications from both major artificial intelligence companies and small to medium-sized businesses. Fogel emphasized the program’s aim to promote the international adoption of American AI technology while preventing its misuse in China’s military advancements.
In addition to the AI export program, the administration has also inked over 28 critical minerals agreements. Caleb Orr, Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs, highlighted the significance of these agreements for securing access to essential minerals crucial for advanced technologies, manufacturing, and defense production.
The bilateral critical minerals agreements are seen as a strategic move to support US companies in resource mapping and investment opportunities. Orr expressed support for congressional efforts to formalize US participation in FORGE, a partnership aimed at diversifying critical mineral supply chains.
