President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of planned US strikes against Iran following discussions with top Iranian leaders. This move hints at the potential for a diplomatic agreement, despite the ongoing US naval blockade. Trump’s decision marked a significant departure from his earlier threat of hitting Iran “VERY HARD TONIGHT.”
The discussions, which involved key parties like the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and others, were approved at the highest levels. While specific details of the proposed agreement were not disclosed, Trump emphasized that the naval blockade on Iran would continue until the finalization of the transaction.
Trump also mentioned that the US military had recently disabled a third commercial tanker for allegedly violating the blockade. The vessel, M/T Jalveer, was targeted in the Gulf of Oman after attempting to transport Iranian oil. This action followed similar operations against other tankers earlier in the week.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) clarified that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for commercial shipping despite these confrontations. The US military’s actions underscore the ongoing tensions in the region, even as diplomatic discussions progress.
