President Donald Trump has announced the commencement of “major combat operations in Iran,” marking a significant escalation in hostilities and sparking fears of a broader regional conflict. The United States and Israel jointly conducted attacks on Iran, heightening tensions in the Middle East and prompting concerns about wider geopolitical and economic impacts.
In a video statement on his Truth Social account, Trump outlined the military objectives, emphasizing the need to eliminate imminent threats posed by the Iranian regime. Accusing Tehran of decades of hostility towards the US, Trump highlighted the regime’s history of violence and anti-American sentiments.
Describing Iran as a “wicked radical dictatorship,” Trump stated that US forces were targeting key military capabilities, including destroying missiles and naval assets, to prevent threats to the region and US forces. He reiterated the US commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, emphasizing the importance of the mission for future security.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed Israel’s involvement in the strikes and declared a state of emergency in response to the evolving security situation. The military action followed a period of US military buildup in the region, spurred by Trump’s support for anti-regime protesters and warnings to Iran regarding its nuclear program.
