US President Donald Trump has once again targeted major US news organizations and specific reporters from The New York Times, accusing them of spreading “Fake News.” Trump used his Truth Social platform to criticize journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, urging his supporters not to purchase their upcoming book. This comes as the White House Correspondents’ Association condemned what it called intimidation of journalists, particularly in light of subpoenas issued to four New York Times reporters regarding Air Force One security concerns.
Trump claimed that Maggie Haberman had been reporting inaccurately about him for a decade, dismissing her upcoming book as “Fake News.” He also alleged that Haberman would face consequences in court due to a lawsuit against The New York Times. Additionally, Trump boasted about his recent physical examination at Walter Reed, stating that he had requested another cognitive test and had aced all of them, emphasizing his unique achievement as the only president to do so three times.
In his social media posts, Trump highlighted his electoral victories as proof that the media lacks credibility. He asserted that despite facing negative press and what he termed as “Fake News,” he had won the presidential election by a landslide, undermining the media’s credibility. Trump continued his criticism of Democratic leaders and major news outlets, claiming that negative coverage had no impact on his political success, despite what he described as overwhelmingly negative press and false reporting.
The ongoing conflict between Trump and the media intensified with reports of the Justice Department subpoenaing the four New York Times journalists who had covered security concerns related to the Qatari-donated aircraft serving as Air Force One. The journalists were compelled to testify before a federal grand jury after reporting that the new aircraft lacked certain defensive capabilities present in its predecessor. In response, the White House Correspondents’ Association President, Weijia Jiang, expressed support for the targeted journalists, denouncing any attempts to intimidate or pressure journalists into revealing their sources.
This latest clash underscores Trump’s enduring feud with major US news organizations, particularly those he accuses of biased or inaccurate reporting. Throughout his tenure, Trump has consistently criticized various American media outlets, labeling their content as “Fake News” and initiating legal actions against several of them.
