US President Donald Trump has postponed his final decision on a draft agreement with Iran following a two-hour meeting with his national security advisors at the White House Situation Room. A White House official stated that Trump is committed to securing a deal that benefits America and meets his specified requirements, emphasizing that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons.
The reason for Trump’s indecision remains unclear, as reported by Xinhua news agency. Earlier, Trump set out conditions for a potential deal with Iran via a post on Truth Social, indicating his intention to reach a conclusive verdict on the matter. Key demands from the US include the disposal of Iran’s enriched nuclear materials, the reopening of the Hormuz Strait without tolls, and the removal of any remaining water mines.
Trump emphasized Iran’s agreement to never develop nuclear weapons and the immediate toll-free opening of the Hormuz Strait for unhindered shipping traffic in both directions. He also mentioned the termination of any water mines present. Additionally, Trump announced the lifting of the US Naval blockade and plans for the United States to work alongside Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency to excavate and destroy Iran’s buried enriched nuclear material.
In response to the ongoing negotiations, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei clarified in an interview with Iranian state media that the current talks have a limited focus and do not encompass discussions on the nuclear issue.
