U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a new multinational military alliance focused on dismantling criminal drug cartels in the Western Hemisphere. At the Shield of the Americas Summit, Trump declared the formation of this coalition to tackle organized crime networks. Named the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition, the initiative aims to unite governments and armed forces in a concerted effort against these criminal groups.
Trump emphasized the necessity of military power in confronting heavily armed cartels, stating that the only way to defeat them is by leveraging the strength of the military. He highlighted the increasing threat posed by these cartels, noting their sophisticated military capabilities that sometimes surpass those of national armed forces. The United States will play a key role in this coalition, providing intelligence and military leadership to partner countries across the Americas.
The President stressed the importance of addressing cartel violence, citing it as a significant risk to regional stability and security. He warned that these criminal organizations not only endanger national security but also create opportunities for foreign powers to exert influence in the region. With representatives from 17 countries already on board, the coalition aims to combat the drug trafficking, violence, and corruption perpetuated by transnational criminal groups in Latin America.
