President Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Kevin Warsh as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Warsh currently holds academic and professional positions, including serving as a fellow at the Hoover Institution and a lecturer at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is also a partner at Duquesne Family Office and has a background in economics and finance, having studied at Stanford University and Harvard Law School.
Warsh previously submitted a report to the Bank of England suggesting reforms in the UK’s monetary policy, which were later adopted by Parliament. He became the youngest Fed Governor at the age of 35 and served on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 2006 to 2011. During his tenure, Warsh represented the Fed at the G-20 and played a role in engaging with economies in Asia.
Before his time at the Federal Reserve, Warsh worked in the White House as a Special Assistant for Economic Policy and Executive Secretary of the National Economic Council. Additionally, he held positions at Morgan Stanley & Co. in New York. Trump expressed confidence in Warsh’s abilities, praising him as a potential great Fed Chairman and highlighting his reliability.
Warsh is set to replace Jerome Powell, who has led the Federal Reserve since 2018, overseeing U.S. monetary policy during the COVID-19 pandemic and inflation challenges. Powell’s policies, including aggressive interest rate hikes, have had significant global economic implications.
