In response to alleged donations embezzlement, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust accepted the resignations of General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra. Retired Indian Forest Service officer Krishna Mohan has been appointed as Rai’s interim replacement. Trust Treasurer Govind Dev Giri expressed dismay over the theft of donations, emphasizing accountability and administrative reforms.
The Trust acknowledged the distress caused by the theft of offerings and the impact on devotees of Lord Ram. Champat Rai voluntarily stepped down, stating it would be inappropriate to continue in his position until the accused were brought to justice. The resignations were promptly accepted in accordance with the Trust’s constitution.
Addressing claims of missing religious artifacts, Govind Dev Giri clarified that the Trust maintains records of around 2,800 such items. The development signifies a pivotal moment in the controversy surrounding the management of the revered religious site. The Trust’s decision to accept resignations on moral grounds signals a fresh start in leadership.
The scandal emerged when discrepancies in donation counting were discovered, leading to a police probe and subsequent arrests. Investigations unveiled a pattern of systematic theft involving various offerings from devotees. The Trust has emphasized transparency in its finances and outlined measures to prevent future breaches.
Krishna Mohan’s appointment as an interim trustee underscores the Trust’s commitment to integrity and professional management. Plans for administrative reviews, potential CEO appointments, and enhanced donation protocols have been announced. The Trust will convene again on July 22 to review the SIT findings and further strengthen oversight.
