Gabbard emphasized the need to prioritize her husband’s health and support him through his medical challenges, leading to her decision to step down from her role effective June 30. Despite acknowledging the progress made in enhancing transparency and integrity within the intelligence community, she highlighted the ongoing important tasks that remain uncompleted.
In her resignation letter to President Trump, Gabbard assured a seamless transition process to avoid any disruptions in leadership or momentum within the ODNI. She credited her husband for his unwavering support throughout her various professional endeavors, including her service as Director of National Intelligence.
President Trump acknowledged Gabbard’s resignation on the social media platform Truth Social, commending her work and expressing understanding for her decision to prioritize her husband’s well-being. He announced that Aaron Lukas, the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, would assume the role of Acting Director of National Intelligence in Gabbard’s absence.
