Hours after a Turkish-owned vessel was attacked in the Black Sea, Turkey issued a warning on Friday urging all involved parties to avoid actions that could escalate the conflict uncontrollably. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that a Turkish-owned ship, flying the flag of Vanuatu, was targeted by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle while transporting dry cargo from Ukraine to Turkey. This attack resulted in minor injuries to two Turkish citizens among the crew.
The Turkish Consulate General in Odesa is closely monitoring the condition of the Turkish citizens aboard the vessel. Expressing concerns about the escalating conflict in the Black Sea and its potential risks to the region, Turkey emphasized the need for all parties to heed their warning and prevent any uncontrolled escalation. Turkey reiterated its calls for ensuring the safety of civilian vessels’ navigation in the Black Sea and emphasized the importance of resolving the conflict through negotiations.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted its readiness to collaborate on regionally driven measures aimed at de-escalation and expediting the peace process. In a separate incident, a Russian drone breached Romanian airspace and crashed into a residential building, causing injuries and a fire, as announced by Romania’s National Defence Ministry. The injured individuals were promptly taken to the Galati County Emergency Clinical Hospital for treatment.
The Romanian ministry disclosed that Russia had resumed drone attacks near Ukraine’s border with Romania, leading to heightened tensions in the region.
