Passengers on a Turkish Airlines flight faced a scare when the landing gear caught fire during landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal. The incident occurred as the plane from Istanbul touched down in Kathmandu early in the morning. Authorities swiftly evacuated the passengers after a fire broke out in the rear landing gear of the aircraft.
Gyanendra Bhul, an official at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, confirmed that all 288 passengers on board the flight were safe. Following the evacuation, the passengers were taken to the terminal, and the baggage from the aircraft was unloaded. Flight operations at the airport were temporarily disrupted due to the emergency.
Emergency response teams at the airport quickly responded to the situation, bringing the fire under control using fire engines. The passengers were safely evacuated through emergency exits. The grounded aircraft is now being inspected by technical teams, and arrangements have been made for affected passengers, including hotel accommodations and alternative flight options.
Authorities are investigating the incident, with the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul team set to conduct a detailed inspection. Additionally, the Flight Safety Department of the Civil Aviation Authority will carry out a thorough probe into the matter.
