In Siliguri, a minor girl’s unnatural death has sparked chaos amidst Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to North Bengal. The girl’s family accused her private tutor, a married man and father of two, of harassing her after she rejected his advances. Unable to cope, the girl tragically took her own life at home.
The incident led to unrest in the area, with protests escalating as locals demanded justice. BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh staged a sit-in, urging for the immediate arrest of the accused, while members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad also took to the streets. The situation became so tense that central forces had to be deployed to maintain order.
Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb intervened, instructing the police to swiftly apprehend the accused. Meanwhile, political figures like Shankar Ghosh criticized the law-and-order situation in West Bengal, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice in such cases.
