Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief C. Joseph Vijay has been officially invited by Governor-in-charge Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to form the next government in Tamil Nadu. Vijay, after demonstrating majority support in the 234-member Assembly, met the Governor at Lok Bhavan in Chennai and submitted a letter confirming his election as the leader of the TVK Legislature Party.
In a significant political development that resolved days of uncertainty post the fractured Assembly verdict, Vijay presented letters of support from the Congress, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) to the Governor. Following this meeting, Governor Arlekar appointed Vijay as the Chief Minister-designate of Tamil Nadu and instructed him to seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly by May 13.
The swearing-in ceremony for Vijay is scheduled to take place at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium at 10 a.m. on Sunday. With the support of 120 MLAs, including 107 TVK members, Vijay comfortably surpassed the majority mark of 118 needed to establish the government in the 234-member Assembly.
