Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay is set to be questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi regarding a tragic stampede at a political rally in Karur district, Tamil Nadu. The stampede occurred on September 27 at Veluchamipuram during a campaign rally attended by Vijay, resulting in 41 deaths and over 100 injuries due to overcrowding and alleged crowd control failures. Following public outrage and judicial intervention, the Supreme Court instructed the CBI to take over the investigation.
A special CBI team from Delhi has been in Karur for weeks investigating the incident, having interviewed over 200 individuals, including victims’ families, witnesses, and officials. The agency has also questioned TVK leaders and local authorities involved in the rally, with a focus on reconstructing the events leading to the stampede.
Vijay has been summoned by the CBI for questioning on January 12, with inquiries expected to cover crowd management, security measures, and rally organization. To ensure his safety amid the investigation, the Union Home Ministry has arranged extensive security measures for Vijay’s visit to Delhi. Departing from Chennai, Vijay will head directly to the CBI office for questioning, as the case gains national attention and political significance.
