Two individuals have been apprehended in Kolkata for unlawfully confining two Bangladeshi nationals under the guise of facilitating visas and extorting money. The Technocity Police Station officers conducted a rescue operation at a hotel, freeing the two Bangladeshis. The arrested include a Bangladeshi national, with authorities commencing interrogations.
The police are currently probing the connection between the detained Bangladeshi citizen and the victims, alongside investigating any potential financial disputes. Recent reports indicate that Rajiv Laskar and Junaid Mian, Bangladeshi citizens with valid visas, arrived in India intending to travel to Turkey. They engaged a broker named Achintya Kumar Pal in their visa pursuit.
Allegedly, Humayun Kabir, another Bangladeshi citizen, introduced Rajiv and Junaid to Achintya Kumar Pal, leading to their detention on false pretenses of visa processing. A ransom of three lakh rupees was demanded, followed by further extortion attempts even after the initial payment. Prompted by confidential sources, police officers intervened, rescuing the victims through a raid at the hotel.
Humayun Kabir and Achintya Pal were arrested for their involvement in the illegal detention and extortion scheme. The duo is scheduled to appear before the Barasat court in North 24 Parganas district. Authorities plan to request custody for continued investigation and are actively pursuing additional suspects linked to the case.
