Two individuals were discovered deceased, and two others are unaccounted for after their vehicle was located in a ravine on the Mughal Road in Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred near Chhattapani along the Mughal Road, where a search and rescue operation is underway. Authorities in Poonch district revealed that four people went missing while traveling on the road, leading to an extensive search effort.
Search teams successfully located the missing vehicle in a stream at Chhattapani during the operation. Tragically, two bodies were recovered from the scene, while efforts continue to locate the remaining two missing individuals. Officials are working diligently to find them promptly and will provide updates as the search progresses. The closure of the road due to recent snowfall in the Pir Ki Gali area has added complexity to the ongoing rescue operation.
Mughal Road, an 84-km historic route connecting Bufliaz in Poonch district to Shopian district, serves as an alternative passage to the Kashmir Valley. The road, traversing the Pir Panjal Pass at 3,500 meters altitude, was initially established during the Mughal era and later modernized as the ‘Mughal Road.’ Despite challenges and setbacks, including terrorism-related disruptions, construction of the road commenced in 2005 with the aim of enhancing the region’s economy.
