Two individuals, one being a state roadways driver, were apprehended in J&K’s Baramulla district for possessing a substance resembling ‘charas,’ as confirmed by the police. The arrest was made during a crackdown on drug peddling, with the recovery taking place in the Fatehgarh area after a naka/patrolling check by the Sheeri police station.
One of the accused, identified as Sajad Ahmad Malik, was found with charas-like material during a search, leading to the subsequent arrest of another individual, Mohd Shafi Lone, who was caught with a similar substance. Investigations revealed that the arrested driver was allegedly using a government SRTC vehicle for transporting contraband substances.
A case under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been filed at Police Station Sheeri, with ongoing investigations into the matter. The police have emphasized their dedication to eradicating drug-related issues and have urged the public to assist by reporting any drug-related activities in their vicinity.
J&K Police, along with security forces, have intensified operations against drug smugglers and peddlers. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha has introduced the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan, imposing additional penalties on drug offenders, including the confiscation of passports, driving licenses, Aadhaar cards, and properties acquired through drug-related activities.
