Two individuals lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. The incident occurred near Basti village in Bhaderwah when the driver lost control of the vehicle at a blind curve, causing it to plunge into a deep gorge. Among the six individuals injured, Zaytoon Bibi was declared dead upon arrival, while Imam Din passed away during treatment.
Hilly terrains, overloading, over-speeding, dangerous overtaking, and road rage are identified as significant factors contributing to accidents in districts like Doda, Kishtwar, and others in Jammu and Kashmir. The majority of road accidents are attributed to human errors such as over-speeding, distracted driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Additional factors include disregarding traffic signals, poor vehicle maintenance, adverse weather conditions, and inadequate road infrastructure.
To address the issue, the Traffic Department has deployed special squads to monitor road safety in these regions, with strict penalties imposed on drivers found violating regulations. Petrol pump owners are instructed not to fuel two-wheeler riders without helmets, and Regional Transport Officers issue advisories on traffic offenses and associated penalties. Parents of minors caught driving may face imprisonment, fines, and vehicle registration cancellation, while drivers breaching traffic rules risk license cancellation and monetary fines.
