Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic head-on collision involving two vehicles in Queensland, Australia. The incident occurred on a highway near the small town of Epsom, around 790 km northwest of Brisbane, when the vehicles, traveling in opposite directions, collided at approximately 10:10 p.m. local time.
The Queensland Police Service confirmed that the 49-year-old male driver and the 39-year-old female driver, who were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles, were pronounced dead at the crash site. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Official records indicate a total of eight fatalities in road accidents in Queensland in 2026 as of Sunday, a decrease from 16 during the same period in 2025. This tragic incident follows another fatal crash on January 20, where three individuals lost their lives in a collision between two utility vehicles near Kingaroy, northwest of Brisbane.
In the earlier incident, one of the vehicles caught fire post-collision, resulting in the death of the male driver and the 44-year-old female driver, along with a 12-year-old girl who was a passenger. A 13-year-old girl from the same vehicle was initially hospitalized in a serious but stable condition before being airlifted to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.
The Queensland Police Service has urged individuals who may have witnessed the crash or have relevant information to come forward as investigations continue at the scene. The highway where the collision occurred was temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation and ensure public safety.
