At least two individuals lost their lives, and nine others sustained injuries in rain-related events in Pakistan’s Punjab within the last 24 hours, as per a statement from Rescue 1122 on Thursday. The collapse of walls, roofs, and a billboard due to strong winds and heavy rain led to the casualties, stated Punjab Rescue 1122 spokesperson Farooq Ahmad, as reported by local media sources.
In Attock, two people were killed, and three others were wounded when a wall collapsed. Additionally, in Para Shaheen Bagh, three individuals were injured as a house roof caved in, according to the spokesperson. Furthermore, one person was struck by lightning in Khushab’s Qaidabad area, while another individual suffered injuries when a signboard fell due to strong winds in Sargodha.
Moreover, a person was injured following the collapse of a wooden roof in Sheikhupura. Emergency response teams from Rescue 1122 promptly arrived at the incident sites and transported the injured to hospitals for necessary medical attention. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced the commencement of a fresh monsoon spell in the country during the first week of July.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) disclosed that seven individuals lost their lives, and 33 others were injured in incidents caused by strong winds, lightning, and rainfall in various parts of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on June 14. The casualties resulted from the collapse of walls and roofs of houses due to severe weather conditions. The fatalities included four men, one woman, and two children in Bannu, Shangla, and Mansehra, as per the PDMA’s damage assessment report released by Geo News.
