Two individuals, including a toddler, lost their lives, and 15 others sustained injuries during a collision between an RTC bus and a lorry in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district. The tragic incident occurred on the Kadapa-Chennai national highway near Udumvaripalli in Pullampeta mandal. The bus, operated by Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), was en route from Tirupati to Kadapa when the lorry, traveling from Yerraguntla to Chennai, collided head-on with it.
A two-year-old child died at the scene, while 16 passengers suffered severe injuries out of the 37 onboard the bus. Promptly responding to the situation, the police initiated a rescue and relief operation, transferring the injured to Rajampeta’s government hospital. Some of the critically wounded were later moved to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Kadapa, where a 16-year-old girl named Yashwitha succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities reported that the lorry’s cleaner was driving as the driver had fallen asleep, leading to the tragic accident. A case was registered, and an investigation was launched into the matter. Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the incident involving the Tirupati-Kadapa Super Luxury bus, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased individuals, Puneeth Sai and student Yashwitha.
Minister Reddy ensured that the injured victims received the best medical attention, personally monitoring their conditions at Rajampeta Government Hospital. He emphasized the importance of transferring those with severe injuries to advanced medical facilities for enhanced care, wishing a speedy recovery for all those affected by the collision. Additionally, Minister for Revenue, Registration, and Stamps, Anagani Satyaprasad, expressed shock over the accident, offering condolences to the affected families and directing officials to ensure comprehensive medical support for the critically injured individuals.
