Two men, one being the Vadodara city president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have been apprehended by Gujarat Police. This action follows an inquiry into claims of threats against party workers by Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials, which were revealed to stem from internal party rivalry. The arrests came after AAP leader Durgesh Pathak and national convenor Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the alleged intimidation of AAP workers by the Gujarat Police’s IB wing on social media.
The investigation led to the identification of Nitin Dobariya, a resident of Anand, and his alleged collaboration with Ashok Oza, the AAP’s Vadodara city unit president. Dobariya, a labor contractor from Rajkot district residing in Anand, was implicated in a scheme to intimidate AAP worker Keshavji Chauhan. The police detailed that Oza and Dobariya conspired to coerce Chauhan into leaving Vadodara through a fake verification call purportedly from the “Karelibaug IB Office.”
The incident gained traction when screenshots and claims about the call circulated online, prompting Kejriwal to question the legitimacy of such verifications. Despite initial concerns, Gujarat Police determined that the threat call did not originate from the IB but was orchestrated by individuals associated with the AAP. A case has been filed under relevant legal provisions, and both suspects are in custody as the investigation progresses.
