Two additional individuals have been apprehended in connection with a trafficking case in Nadia, West Bengal. Sathi Biswas, also known as Tina, and Tanmoy Das were taken into custody from a cafe in Kalyani, Nadia district. The arrests were made following leads obtained during the interrogation of previously apprehended suspects. Kolkata Police headquarters sources revealed that the duo was arrested while inside the cafe in Kalyani.
The investigation, which initially led to the arrest of six individuals, has now expanded to include the discovery of two brothel owners. Authorities are planning to request custody of the newly arrested pair from Kalyani for further inquiry into the case. Efforts are underway to gather more details about the incident and determine if there are additional accomplices involved in the trafficking network.
In a separate incident last September, Kolkata Police’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit rescued 11 individuals, including nine minor girls, and detained six individuals for operating a sex racket. Acting on a tip-off, police raided a residence in the Burtolla Police Station area of north Kolkata, where the victims were found. The house was owned by a middle-aged couple, Amit Banerjee and Saraswati Banerjee, who were promptly arrested. Additionally, four more individuals, namely Suman Halder, Deep Chatterjee, Akash Chowdhury, and Pooja Mistry, were apprehended on suspicion of involvement in trafficking.
Instances of sex racketeering in spas and massage parlors in Kolkata and its environs have periodically surfaced, prompting law enforcement to conduct raids to combat such illicit activities.
